The purpose of the Royal Oak Model United Nations is to foster a spirit for a peaceful global community through an increased knowledge of and participation in activities of government, geography, law, culture, and social systems.
The Royal Oak Model United Nations established 12 core principles which govern its decisions for debate, advocacy, and community participation.

Community – To serve as role models, to reach out to other clubs and organizations, to build networks of friends, to share
Compassion for Humanity– Empathy, recognizing the worth of people everywhere
Diplomacy – Acting in a professional manner in and outside of the club, supporting cooperation over competition through words and action
Equality – Treating everyone in the same manner, supporting equal empowerment of everyone in decisions and consequences
Global Awareness – Recognizing and understanding current issues in the local, national and international community
.Individualism – Being one’s self, non-conformity, having a responsibility to speak and act on one’s own ideas
Interdependence – Recognizing how we need each other, the absence of hierarchy, “keeping the table round”
Justice – Fairness, unbiased and informed decisions
Open-mindedness – Accepting of the opinions and ideas of others, accepting the validity of all informed world views
Peace – Working to end violence, physical or otherwise, promoting non-violent behavior, taking positive and constructive action
Social Responsibility – Being involved, understanding and working to improve the world and solve global issues where we find them
