What is the United Nations?
The United Nations (UN) is an organization of independent nations (over 190 to date), not a world government. The UN works to settle disputes, prevent war, preserve the environment, protect humanity, and much more, including the battle against HIV/AIDS in Africa, defining terrorism, arbitrating treaties, and setting standards for international air travel, for international commerce, and for fundamental human rights.
What is the Model United Nations?
In conferences students assume the role of UN delegates representing other nations and will research and debate items from the UN's enormous agenda. Students gain a greater understanding of global issues, in-depth research skills, persuasive writing and speaking, compromise, and leadership.
