Debating is vital to the team, but only because we care about what's happening in the world. Our Advocacy work is the natural outcome of that concern: we want to make a difference. Here are some of the programs ROMUN runs to raise awareness and effect change.
Our ProjectsThe ROMUN Forums
The team frequently conducts public forum debates on a wide range of issues, These take place in schools, at civic organizations, and cable broadcasts. Past forums have been held on nuclear non-proliferation, NAFTA, AIDS, Tibet, the Ukrainian crisis, etc. We also conduct a full-day forum in May for social studies classes. Would you like to book us for an event? The ROMUN Forum Cable Series ROMUN is preparing a short series of discussion programs produced by WOAK. Writings ROMUN students will often produce positions on various topics or argue from the position of a particular country to help raise awareness on various issues. Watch for our publications in newspapers and our blog. Awareness Drives United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF).Annually in the month of October, members of the ROMUN team work with Interact to participate in this awareness and fundraising drive to benefit children globally. Slave-For-A-Day Awareness Program. The winners of our "Slave for a Day" didn't just earn a ROMUN "slave," but unsuspectingly purchased an educated and vocal advocate against global human trafficking who responded to each order with a barrage of statistics and stories of this growing transnational crime! Thanks to our three slaves for a surprising and provocative project. Other Projects. Watch for programs like The Blockade, flash mobs, and work with ROMUN's advocacy arm, InterAct. |
Our ResolutionsSometimes a topic stirs us to genuine debate and action. The ROMUN team will debate and pass a resolution establishing its genuine position on topics of local, national, and international interest. Here are copies of our past resolutions and reports:
InterAct of Royal Oak
Because advocacy has become such a large part of the ROMUN agenda, we created the InterAct club to extend the scope of our work. InterAct has grown quickly, committing itself to activism, various partnerships, and local. national, and international volunteerism.
